Administration of Extended Release (ER) Buprenorphine

Ethiqa XR® is an extended-release buprenorphine formulation that provides up to 72 hours of pain relief in rodents and other species. ULAR staff can administer Ethiqa XR® for researchers when buprenorphine is included in their IACUC protocol.
Injection requests are scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Requests for injections outside these hours or on weekends and University holidays cannot be accommodated through this service.
Requests should be submitted at least three business days before the requested injection date. Upon receipt of your request, a ULAR staff member will confirm availability of your requested injection date and time by email. All requests are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to staffing availability.
Ethiqa XR® is charged as the cost of the drug and supplies plus technical time for administration of the request (charged in 15-minute increments). Drug costs are subject to change based on current vendor pricing. View current rates for technical time.

Request Process
- Complete the Buprenorphine ER Injection Request form.
- Look for a confirmation email from the ULAR.
- Place a blue rodent surgery card on cages prior to injection.
- Email cage locations and weights (for species other than lab mice) to OR-ULARERBup@osu.edu if not already provided.
